Electronic Medical Records Available Instantly

Posted: 04.09.2014 – your secure, online health connection

For more than 50 years, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has made it our goal to provide unsurpassed quality eye care to you and your family. It is with great excitement that we announce our next big step toward providing you with the best technological advances in the healthcare industry.

We are pleased to introduce, our new electronic medical records (EMR) system. is powered by EPIC, the number-one rated EMR in the country. One in four physicians across the United States uses EPIC as their EMR, successfully serving millions of patients.

With, you can log on to any computer, from anywhere, any time of day to securely access a portion of your medical records. It provides new, convenient methods of communication with your doctor’s office. You can renew prescriptions, check lab results, send messages, review billing, schedule appointments and much more – all online.

Each patient across the University of Miami Health System will have one healthcare record that contains the results and notes generated during their UHealth hospital or office visits. This shared record will allow your doctors at UHealth and at any institution across the country utilizing the EPIC system to access the most current information regarding your care. This helps to reduce repeat tests, prevent delays in diagnosis and treatment, and improve communication between physicians. Instant access to electronic medical records will also allow physicians – especially in emergencies – to begin quickly providing care.

We are excited to be a part of this project that is revolutionizing the way healthcare is delivered. As we transition from paper to our new electronic system, learning a new process will temporarily require more time for each patient visit. This learning time will affect all areas of your visit. Physicians, nurses, technicians, registration personnel, and office staff are being trained to better serve you. Realizing that timely access to care will be a challenge in the month of May, we ask you to consider scheduling routine appointments later this summer. Our physicians will be working hard to provide extra appointment times surrounding our implementation to help accommodate your needs.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to bring the best in healthcare to you.
