Ocular Microbiology Laboratory Services
Certified nationally by the College of American Pathologists-(CAP) and locally by the State of Florida, through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) the laboratory offers diagnostic services in the detection, recovery and identification of bacteria, fungi, viruses, chlamydia and free living amoeba involved in ocular infections. In vitro susceptibility testing using traditional disk diffusion (Kirby Baeur), breakpoints (Vitek) and discrete MICs are also offered to assist in the management and successful therapeutic outcomes.

Smears/stains:
gram, giemsa, acid fast and calcofluor, white stains
Impression Cytology membranes:
immunofluorescence (DFA) for viral, chlamydia and acanthamoeba
Cultures:
Ocular and Nonocular to R/O bacteria, chlamydia, viruses, free-living amoeba and fungi
Susceptibility Testing:
Automated MICs, E tests and Disk diffusion
