Interdisciplinary Initiatives

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has been building its research program across the multiple disciplines of the biosciences, biomedical engineering, and clinical research. In addition, we have developed focused initiatives within key areas that leverage opportunity for collaboration across the strengths of the university and the state of Florida. We are investing in each initiative to hire exceptional new faculty, develop core laboratory facilities, and start up new educational programs.

Each of these initiatives taps into current technological frontiers that hold substantial promise to bring innovation to ophthalmology. Each is also “interdisciplinary”, in alignment with the National Institutes of Health roadmap for biomedical research. Interdisciplinary research brings together scientists, clinicians, and other professionals from seeming disparate disciplines in a “meeting of the minds” to integrate their strengths and broaden the scope of investigation and application. By building state-wide, national, and global alliances, we are enhancing the opportunity for such collaboration as well as increasing their scale. Please click on the links at right to learn more.
